SMME Opportunity Roadshow

About the event

In the wake of the current negative economic climate in South Africa , of the 53 million population of this country 5.1m people are unemployed, and 2.4m are discouraged from looking for a job. Given the current constraints on the public sector amid this economic uncertainty, the importance of SMME's has never been greater.

The small business sector in South Africa has the potential to make a significant contribution to economic growth, employment and development.

SMMEs are regarded as the engine of growth this means that SMMEs are key in creating jobs and employment in the country. Research from the National Treasury Research on SMMEs in South Africa, (2008) states that ‘eight out of every ten new jobs created in South Africa are in the private sector’. SMME's are essential for a competitive and efficient market ,because SMME’s play the competitive game differently from corporates, their nimble approach to competition drives efficiency and productivity. They are essential for a competitive and efficient market.

Often based in areas outside of the urban sphere they are crucial to poverty reduction and increasing economic activity. SMME's are key for developing nations in that they are productive drivers of inclusive economic growth and development and drive diversification through their development of new and untapped sectors of the economy.

The SMME Opportunity Roadshow not only showcases opportunities but also provides focused guidance for SMMEs to mainstream their competitive advantage as effectively as possible. SMMEs will also be networking with key players in every economic sector, meeting the people they need to improve their businesses. The aim of the SMME Roadshow is to equip small business owners with the knowledge and contacts they require to fulfill their destiny, to become the prime engine of the economy and principal source of employment.

At the SMME Opportunity Roadshow 2017, entrepreneurs turned up in great numbers in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town, eager to learn from accumulated expertise that each episode of the Roadshow made available. SMME 2018 looks set to be bigger than ever, kicking things off in East London on the 26th July.

This is a call to action for aspiring entrepreneurs, corporates and government to attend SMME 2018 to come together in the sharing of skills, expertise and opinions in order to empower, discover, improve and ultimately unlock South Africa's business talent.
