Cleantech Open Green Buildings Winner At The SMME Opportunity Roadshow
2016 GCIP-SA runner-up, Martin Ackermann, recently received the top award in the Green Buildings Category at the Cleantech Open Global Forum in San Francisco for the Thevia roof tiles, which are manufactured from 99% waste materials (crusher discard and recycled HDPE).
The tiles are 75% lighter than conventional concrete roof tiles but double the strength with less than 0.1% breakage, translating into cost savings of 8% –15% on total roof installation. Ackermann will be one of the speakers at the SMME Opportunity Roadshow at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on 20 April 2017, and he will also be exhibiting at the event, jointly with the GCIP-SA (Global Cleantech Innovation Programme for SMEs and Start-ups in SA).
Attendance of the Cleantech week and participation in the Global Forum is part of the prize in the GCIP-SA competition and business accelerator. Ackermann strongly encourages entrepreneurs with innovative cleantech solutions to apply for the 2017 GCIP-SA programme and business accelerator. The Call for Applications is now open, and closes on 26 April 2017. “The GCIP-SA is so much more than the ultimate accelerator. We became part of an international community of like-minded people focused on working together, helping each other to make the world a better place,” he says.
GCIP-SA National Programme Manager Gerswynn McKuur explains that the objective is to assist entrepreneurs in turning their cleantech innovations into successful businesses. Participants can expect the following:
- A ground-breaking mentoring and training programme
- Ongoing expert mentoring
- Local and international showcasing opportunities
- Access to potential investors, partners and customers
